Kiryu is back. And there is no rest for the Death God. Not even when everyone else sleeps. As he slowly heads towards his unavoidable destiny and the battle of his life, there are certain obstacles on the road. Obstacles that he must overcome, no matter what, no matter how...

The Warrior's Weapon - Part 1

Night falls on Satisfaction Town. For some, the day has just started, but this is the time when most people go to rest. Even the mighty leader, Kiryu, needs to get some sleep in between his duties. As he slumbers peacefully in his room, the door falls ajar and three girls watch over his sleep. His guardian angels, in a manner of speaking. Relieved, they whisper to each other, so that they don't disturb the slumber of the Death God.

Nina: Looks like he is finally asleep.

Becca: [sighs] Oh, thank goodness.

Adelle: Yeah, about time the sedative kicked in.

Becca: [looks horrified at Adelle] You slipped him a pill?

Adelle: I slipped him three. That boy has the constitution of a battle tank.

Nina: Well, what matters is that he is finally getting some rest.

Adelle: [nods] Yes. He hasn't slept for days since our little "incident". I was starting to get worried...

Becca: [looks at Kiryu softly] Poor Kiryu. He has a lot on his shoulders already. Whatever happened that day really just made him worse.

Nina: Speaking of which, did you figure out what happened to his duel runner?

Becca: We couldn't recover anything from the accident, but based on what Adelle and her sensors indicated, it just shouldn't have happened.

Adelle: "Not supposed to have happened"? This is Kiryu we are talking about. We may not much experience with it, but he had his fair share of... supernatural happenings. I wouldn't be surprised that was just one of them.

Becca: You mean, there is something... out there... trying to get him?

Adelle: Look, I am not saying that is some big evil force out there trying to kill him, but you should know by now: in this town, around someone like Kiryu, anything is possible.

Nina: Guys, stop it, you are giving me the creeps.

Adelle: [chuckles] What's the matter, Nina, you scared?

Becca: [keeps her eyes on Kiryu] Whatever it is, we are here to protect Kiryu. I mean, we owe him that much, don't we?

Adelle: [nods together with Nina] Yes, sister. There aren't a lot of men I'd take a bullet for, but Kiryu is one of them.

Nina: Ok, I think we stood here long enough. Let's get out of here, before we wake him up with our chatter.

Becca: [nods] Let's leave him to his rest.

Adelle: We'll let him sleep for as long as the pills keep him asleep. We can take care of things while he's roaming in Dreamland. Right, girls?

Becca: [smiles] We certainly can!

Nina: [closes the door, but not before all three blow Kiryu a kiss] Sweet dreams, sheriff!

Adelle: Boy, am I tired. I think we could also use some shut-eye.

Nina: [yawns] I'm going to sleep like a baby tonight.

Becca: You always sleep like a baby, Nina. It's always a struggle to get you out of bed. [giggles]

Nina: Oh, shut up, sis!

Kiryu has faced dangers all his life. Growing up on the streets, every day was a struggle to survive. But he did. That's what he is. A survivor. Sometimes your enemies try to take your very life, sometimes they want to take the things you hold most dear. This is one such night for Kiryu. Just as the sisters go down the stairs and leave, a figure steps out from the shadows and sneaks his way to Kiryu's bedroom door.

????: [in his thoughts] Damn, I thought those broads would never leave! Let's see...[inspects the door] Hah! Pathetic. They call this a lock? SI'll get this open in no time...

The sneak-thief successfully picks the lock and tiptoes into the sheriff's room, closing the door behind him. Kiryu is still asleep, unaware of the unwelcome guest.

????: [in his thoughts] That's right, sheriff. Sleep. Sleep tight, while I search your room and find...

His look stops and fixates on the nightstand. He quickly sneaks his way there, carefully watching Kiryu's every breath.

????: [in his thoughts] He keeps his deck out in the open just like that? This is easier than I thought... [grabs the deck from the nightstand and inspects it] Yes, yes! This is it! Everything's here! All those powerful Synchro monster and everything! With this deck, I will be unbeatable!

Just as quickly he came in, so did the burglar leave. He decided to use the window this time, not wanting to run into anyone who might come to check on the sheriff.

???? [closing the window] Let's see how great you are without your deck, "Death God"! [chuckles]

After the thief makes his exit, an eerie presence fill Kiryu's room. The objects begin to tremble, resonating a powerful energy.

Mysterious Deep Voice: Your darkness... not... his.

The thief looks around as he climbs down the roof, making sure nobody saw him.

????: Good. I think nobody noticed me. [grins] No one would suspect someone might rob the "mighty and powerful Death God". Except me, of course! With his deck in my hands, I can finally leave this rotten place and make a name for myself out there!

The shady man crawls the alleys of Satisfaction Town, trying to avoid any patrols and contact with other people. But just as he turns around a corner, two people grab his arms and apprehend him.

Damian: Where do you think you're going, punk?

Raul: You have some nerve stealing from Kiryu!

????: [struggling to break free] Let me go! I've done nothing!

Damian: Yeah, sure, you just happened to get locked into his room and you were forced to climb out the window! Then you just sneak through the streets like a burglar. Why, you are not suspicious at all! Search him, Miguel!

Miguel: [finds a deck in the inner pockets] Is this... Why, this is Kiryu's own deck! There is no doubt about it!

????: [tries to lunge forward] Give that back! It is MINE now!

Adelle: Oh, really? [walks in with her sisters] You think you are soooo smart. There are 3 people watching Kiryu's house at all times. He's... I dunno... only the single most important person in town? A dozen more gate guards. Then there's us. Did you really think you could just sneak out of town with Kiryu's FREAKING DECK!?! [slaps him]

????: If he's really so big, he can make due without it! Or does he control you all with that deck?

Becca: What are you talking about?!? Stealing other people's things is wrong, whether it belongs to Kiryu or someone else!

Nina: Yeah! And why do you need his deck anyway? Can't you, like, make your own?

????: [looks down] I...

Adelle: Well he's going to have plenty of time to think about a new deck. Because you, my boy, are going to spend a lot of time in jail! Take him away, boys!

Kiryu: What's going on here? [walks in, fully dressed in his traditional clothes]

Everyone: Kiryu!!!

Kiryu: [puts his index finger in front of his lips] Shhh. We shouldn't wake up the entire town. Tell me, what's wrong? Why are you restraining that man?

Adelle: Kiryu! But the pills... I mean... shouldn't you be sleeping right now?

Becca: Yeah, please go back and rest. We can take care of this.

Kiryu: It looks like a bad time to be sleeping right now. Please, tell me, who is this man?

Damian: His... his name is Neal. I know him. He's been living in this town for quite some time. We caught him, trying to steal your deck! Your deck, out of all things!

Kiryu: [looks at Neal with sympathy] So you are the one... I have felt a... disturbance when my deck was taken from me. I didn't think anyone would actually take it from me, in my own house...

Adelle: Hah! You see? Kiryu even has a built-in alarm that wakes him up if someone tries to steal his deck! There is no way you would have gotten away with it!

Kiryu: [walks closer to Neal] Tell me, why did you do such a thing?

Neal: I... I don't need to explain myself to you!

Kiryu: Maybe not, but you have little choice in the matter. You have been caught. If you won't tell me, you will tell your interrogators. Who will then inform me. All while you are locked away. I think it would be better if you told me now, while you still have a shred of freedom.

Raul: Kiryu, there's no need to reason with this criminal! Let's just lock him up and put him on trial tomorrow!

Kiryu: Are we not all criminals, Raul? Adelle, Nina, Becca... look at us. Do we not all wear the same kind of marks on our faces? Are we really all that different from this man?

Becca: Well... There is a big difference. You wear marks because of what you have done in the past, and because they won't come off. You are not going around breaking into people's houses and stealing their belongings!

Kiryu: True, but there is still one thing in common: we all did what we did with a reason. I want to know HIS reason now. [turns back to Neal]

Neal: [looks up] Why? Why does it matter to you? Would you just let me go if I gave you a good explanation? I don't think so.

Kiryu: I wouldn't let you go if it meant that you would steal again... from me or someone else. But this is your chance to explain yourself. To confess. Maybe even start repenting.

Damian: Kiryu, with all do respect, I don't think...

Kiryu: Silence! Neal... This is your last chance. After that, I will leave you to the law enforcement, and I won't be able to guarantee what happens to you.

Neal: [growls] Fine! You want to know why I did it? Because you people have no idea what it's like!

Kiryu: [crosses his arms] What do you mean?

Neal: To not have anything! Nothing but the air that you breath, the clothes that you are wearing and that crummy little tiny space you call home! Not even you, Kiryu, who came from Satellite! Look at you now! You have an entire town on the top of your palms. You have wealth, you have fame, you have your own people, a bunch of girls to please you at any time...

Adelle, Nina and Becca: HEY!!!

Neal: You have forgotten how it's like, when every day is a struggle to survive and every morning you wake up in disappointment! [tears come to his eyes] The only thing that kept me going was dueling! But you think I could make myself a real deck! I put together something from scraps, but it was worthless! I couldn't win because I couldn't get good cards. And I couldn't get better cards because I never won anything. I'm not some sheriff who already had a full deck when he came here, and he could just get new cards whenever he wanted!!!

Raul: Listen, boy, this is all really sad, but it doesn't make things right! Don't you agree, Kiryu?

Kiryu: So that's the reason? You were not satisfied with your life or your deck. And you thought you could be better off with my deck rather than yours?

Neal: Exactly! Nobody can beat that deck! Nobody! That's why I wanted to get my hands on it, and then leave this forsaken place!

Kiryu: You wanted to leave Satisfaction Town forever? Why?

Neal: [twitches] "Satisfaction" Town? That's a laugh! You are kidding yourself, all of you! You said it yourself, Kiryu, we are nothing but a bunch of criminals! Sentenced here to fight each other, to see who gets sent to hell first! It's no different now. People are still working their days away in the mines, except now they are doing "volunteer work". At least while Ramon and Marco were in change, we had dueling to decide our fate! What happened to to those days? Occasional friendly duels on the streets? Duel festivals? Shops, businesses, trades with the big cities? [spits on the ground] You can try to mask it all you want, but this town is rotten to the core! You are just trying to make it something it's not!

Adelle: [whispers to her sisters] He's not just a thief, he's a lunatic! [the sisters nod]

Kiryu: I am sorry you feel that way. If you were not happy here, you could have just left. Nobody would have forced you to stay. But you shouldn't have resorted to stealing. Now you may not leave at all...

Neal: Hah! Figures! All you see in me is a petty thief! You don't care about me or what happens to me, do you? Now that you have made it to the top, you don't care about the little people anymore, do you? I can just starve or rot in a cell for all you care!

Kiryu: [kept his calm so far, but starting to get agitated] You are wrong! I care about everyone! Satisfaction Town is everyone's town! Not just mine or those close to me! If I didn't care about you, we wouldn't be having this conversation right now.

Neal: Tell me, would you be so high and mighty without your deck? That exact deck that your goon is holding right now?

Kiryu: [thinks for a moment] No... Without that deck I wouldn't be the same person today.

Neal: You see? If I had that deck, I would have been the successful one, and you... you would be just a nobody!

Damian: Now hold on there just a second!

Neal: I know what you are thinking! "It's not about the deck, it's about the strategy"! I say that's rubbish! Without powerful cards, you can have all the strategy you want, you will never win! But poor people like me will never have strong cards or a strong deck! It's people like you who have the power, and you don't share! You want victory for yourselves!!!

Kiryu: You think it's all about victory? There are times when you have to win, indeed, but not winning all the time doesn't have to be frustrating.

Neal: Not when you don't win at all!!! Haven't you been listening to me? Your deck... I saw what it can do! Without that deck, you would have lost long ago to one of Marco's henchmen! With that deck, I could...

Kiryu: So you think you deserve this deck, that you could wield it the same way I do?

Neal: That's exactly what I'm saying! I deserve it as much as you do! I deserve at least a chance!

Adelle: Kiryu, stop wasting time with this guy! Don't you see? He is completely delusional. And probably outright crazy. You got him to confess everything. Can we put him in jail now?

Kiryu: [thinks for a while] Not yet. Damian, Raul, let him go!

Raul: Kiryu, are you serious?

Kiryu: As serious as always. Block his escape, but let go of his arms. He will need them. Miguel, give him my deck.

Miguel: Kiryu!!! You can't seriously....

Kiryu: Just do it! Trust me... Neal. I want to make a deal.

Neal: Wha... What kind of deal? [rubs his wrists after getting free]

Kiryu: You think you deserve my deck. Prove it. I'll take your deck, you take mine. If you can beat me with it, it's yours. If I win, I will leave your fate to my men. Do we have an agreement?

Neal: [grins] Oh yes! I like the sound of that! [takes his deck out of his pouch and throws it at Kiryu] Here, you can keep it for all I care! I won't be needing it any longer! [Miguel hands over Kiryu's deck, reluctantly]

Adelle: Kiryu!!! What are you doing? I know you like to do stupid things, but this is a whole new level! You can't just gamble away your deck like this!

Kiryu: [smiles] Why not? I have once gambled the entire town in a duel, isn't that right, men?

Damian: Kiryu, that was different! Against Shigura, you still had your own deck! But now...

Kiryu: Do you agree with Neal, then? Do you think that all my worth is in that one deck, the deck that's in his hands now?

Everyone was silent. Kiryu has asked a difficult question. Damian, Raul, Miguel, Adelle, Nina and Becca all looked at each other, not sure what to say. The deck should be a duelist's extension. It's part of what he is. It's like a sword in a warrior's hand: they are one. But what happens if a warrior discards his signature weapon, and his signature weapon ends up in the enemies hands? Is part of the warrior truly in the enemy right now? Can he wield a new weapon the same way he did with his old one? Would he still be the same warrior? Can the enemy truly use his own weapon against him?

Kiryu: Gives us some duel disks and let's head out, beyond the town's walls. I don't want to disturb anyone with our duel.

Kiryu's men complied. They couldn't deny their Death God, even if they didn't agree with everything he did. After all, he is not just a Death God. He is the savior of the town, a man who proved himself time and time again, a man they can always trust. The question is, can he prove himself now, without the strength he always has? The duelists take their positions, surrounded by 6 of Satisfaction Town's finest. And while the sun sleeps with the rest of the townsfolk, outside the gates, the battle of fates begins.

Neal and Kiryu: [activating their disks] DUEL!!!

Kiryu 8000 vs Neal 8000

TO BE CONTINUED

-------------------------------------------------------------------

AUTHOR'S NOTES:

1. Like I said, I don't like doing multi-parters, but the backstory and dialog ended up being pretty long, and difficulties with finalizing the duel itself forced me to split this episode into two. While it's certainly not complete without the duel itself, I hoped you enjoyed this part on its own. After all, it has story, I think some of the best dialog I have written in a while (always love to throw in lines with the sisters), a buildup for tension, and some foreshadowing for future events as well.

2. Speaking of future events, I just want to give a little more detail about my plans. There's this episode and one more after which serves as a buildup for the endgame. Then, I plan to let it rest for a while, you know, calm before the storm, have some filler stories, like the backstory of the sisters(which will be pretty big), a story based around West, the flashback with Kiryu vs Jack, maybe some other things if I come up with them along the road. Then there is going to be the big finale, stretched across several episodes. Now, I say finale because of how huge the enemy is going to be, but it doesn't mean it's going to be the final episode. It's just a really cool story I want to get over with. Imagine a sandbox style game, like Minecraft, which has a main questline with a big final boss, but after you defeat it, it's not over. You can just keep on doing whatever you want. The "Mysterious Deep Voice" which I will reveal later serves that purpose. It's something that has to be dealt with, something that is bigger than anything else before it, but it doesn't mean the adventure's end.

3. When enough episodes have been made, I will probably make another Special with memories of favourite quotes, but for the record, in this episode my favorite line is not what people might expect. I make these episodes to be generally serious and sometimes a little disturbing, but what I enjoy the most is inserting lighthearted and funny lines to contrast with the rest. In this case, the definite winner is Adelle's line of slipping Kiryu 3 pills because he has "the constitution of a battle tank".

4. Speaking of the Special with the memories, it ended up being a very useful tool, because I can have it open in another tab and look up things easily in older episodes: names, synchro chants, references, and so on. Before that, if I didn't remember something, I'd had to search for the episode and open in another tab. Now everything is just a click away. Yeah I don't really like to open Word or Notepad for archives. When I first started all of this, I didn't even save the episodes in separate files. Lesson learned.

5. In case you don't remember Shigura and the reference with Kiryu gambling the town away, look up the very first episode. :) Thought it would be fun to throw in a reference for that one, because even though it's not my favourite, it's not half bad and deserves some homage.

6. The paragraph with Kiryu being not just the Death God, but also the savior of the town, for those who don't know, is based on a quote from Nico in the anime. It was one of the most memorable quotes for me from the Crash Town arc. In between tears, she says something like: "you are not a Death God, you are the savior of this town". You have to watch a subbed Japanese episode to see what I mean, but at some parts I have trouble following what they are trying to say. Maybe because of rough translation, maybe because Japanese have a different way of expressing things and building sentences, it can get a little confusing. But that line, I think I could understand why she said it. Kiryu was dubbed by townsfolk Death God because of what he was doing, reaping victims one after another, and he was like the symbol of death itself: cold, lacking passion and the will to live. However, the girl somehow saw something more in Kiryu: not a bringer of doom, a bad omen, but someone who has the power to make things right. This is my interpretation of that line and its an ideal I also incorporated in Nigel's character: beyond the veil, seeing hope in Kiryu and his true potential.

There are quite a few things that can ruin someone strategy if he focuses a lot in a certain monster which automatically makes such a deck less competitive but what in your opinion are the best cards to protect important monsters from all those dangerous effects?

It been just over 1 week since the sneak peek of the pack Galactic Overlord (comes out 5/8/2012 (TCG)) and Hieratic Dragons are already raging into popularity. The xyz's are already 25-50 Dollar cards and with experience with them on dueling network they are broken. Excellent deck to create.

Along with the Hieratic Dragons also comes a new type of monsters called lightray. Basically they are opposites of current monsters:

Lightray Daedalus ------> Levia-Dragon - Daedalus
Lightray Diabolos -------> Diabolos, King of the Abyss
Lightray Gearfried ------> Phoenix Gerfried
Lightray Sorcerer -------> Chaos Sorcerer
Lightray Grepher -------> Dark Grepher

With similar ignition effects of their counter parts they can now work with light monsters. Very interesting cards.

This new structure deck is going to probably be one of the best structure to ever come. First you get a deck based around Six Samurai Plus some excellent cards including a before hard to get card.

So far the deck has not been announced except on the strategy site. Though here are some spoilers

Great Shogun Shien

Legendary Six Samurai - Kizan

Six Samurai United

Dark Hole

Fiendish Chain

Musakani Magatama

As far as the previous hard to get card - Fiendish Chain - its a great staple for about any deck out there, whether in the main deck or the side deck. Previously only available in the pack Absolute Powerforce. Is about 30 Dollars right now for the current card.

Another thing is that Dark Hole has not been in a Starter/Structure deck since Starter Deck: Yugi Evolution. Because of this, it makes this card about 5-12 Dollar Card (not everyone wants to pay that much for this card.)

This is as much as I know about this deck, though I do know is that konami is making some effort of making some of the staples easier to get.

A year after the once mighty kids entertainment powerhouse 4Kids filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy (see “4Kids Files Chapter 11”), and just a month after settling a lawsuit over its rights to the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime property, 4Kids has sold its YGO rights to Kidsco, an affiliate of the Saban Capital Group (that rose to success in the world of children’s programming on the backs of the Power Rangers) for 10 million dollars.

Thus ended a remarkable run for 4Kids and Yu-Gi-Oh!, which remains a popular Saturday morning cartoon series and one of the top collectible card games (which is distributed here by Konami Digital Entertainment and will likely remain unaffected by the sale of the rights to the YGO anime) in both the mass and hobby channels (see “Top Collectible Games—Q4 2011”).

Meanwhile 4Kids, having shed its most potent license, has signed a deal that will give it international rights to the 52-episode Beastkeeper cartoon series produced in Italy by Mondo TV, Starbright, and Ponpoko Productions. Mondo TV began as a distributor of anime and manga in Italy, and the Beastkeeper series reflects a heavy anime influence, both stylistically (check out the hairdos on the series’ tween protagonists) and thematically (the young boy at the center of the series possesses an ancient artifact that gives him the power to control and merge with Beasts, legendary creatures who are hidden in every part of the world).

Now if you have bought some of the previous starter deck and though "man this deck is crap" Well there is a different story with the new XYZ Symphony Starter Deck.

Deck list in Order of Number

Alexandrite Dragon

Spirit of the Harp

Frostosaurus

Zubaba Knight

Ganbara Knight

Gogogo Golem

Gogogo Giant

Goblindbergh

Feedback Warrior

Shine Knight

Cyber Dragon

Trident Warrior

Chiron the Mage

Marauding Captain

Penguin Soldiers

Sangan

Giant Rat x2

Shining Angel x2

Blustering Winds

Ego Boost

Xyz Energy

Star Changer

Swords of Revealing Light

Mystical Space Typhoon

Fissure

Gravity Axe - Grarl

Reinforcement of the army

Burden of the mighty

Heartfelt Appeal

XYZ Effect

Raigeki Break

Trap Hole

Dust Tornado

Magic Cylinder

Draining Shield

Call of the Haunted

Limit Reverse

Seven Tools of the bandit

Number 39: Utopia

Muzurhthm The String Djinn

Temtempo the Purcussion Djinn

Melomelody The Brass Djinn

Maestroke The Syphony Djinn

The key cards that are great are the following

Cyber Dragon

Alexandrite Dragon (2000 atk beater)

Sangan

Star Changer (great for synchro summoning or XYZ summoning (or stopping it))

Burden the Mighty

Number 39: Utopia

Maestroke The symphony Djinn (Ill explain Later)

And the few staples in pretty much good in any deck

Overview of the Maestroke the Symphony Djinn

Basically a Level 4 Gachi Gachi that can also work the with the other Djinn XYZ Cards. Heres the text

Quote:

Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card to target 1 face-up Attack Position monster your opponent controls; change it to face-down Defense Position. If a face-up "Djinn" Xyz Monster you control would be destroyed, you can detach 1 Xyz Material from that monster instead.
