Default DuelCity Academy: Tatakai Hito-tsu

Quote:
Trasia: 8000 | 8000 :Texcinatrix
My Deck slowly descended into the confines of the Duel Disk. The Arena looks like a blue digital Tennis Court with 10 Large squares on both sides of the divide. Five directly in front of the user and an additional Five in front of the 1st set. I've played Duel Monsters dozens of times back home but nothing like this. Just cardboard cards with pretty pictures and a calculator to keep score with the playing field pretty much in my head. I have no idea what to expect... especially with my opponent being one of the best in the school. Do I even have a chance?
The intercom connected to the Duel Disk begins to blare in a computerized female voice.
Please both players insert your Duel Cards.
Looking across the field I see the girl insert hers. What if I don't? I mean do I want to do this? What's the point? I have nothing to prove. Perhaps I can appeal to her better nature rather than embarrass myself.

Trasia: Um... Texcy. I think there has been a terrible mistake. I don't want to-
Texcinatrix: Wait... what did you just call me?
Trasia: ...Texcy?
Texcinatrix: 1) I don't know you for you to call me by that name 2) I'm in a hurry so if you could move this along it would be greatly appreciated
She said this with a hint of sarcasm
Texcinatrix: and 3)we seem to have a rather large crowd gathered here and if you run away now you will never be respected in the school again. Shall we start?

Looking around for the 1st time I see that she was right. It seemed the whole school was watching us. Cheering and shouting... at least they appeared to be shouting. No sound could be heard from within the field of the outside. It appeared that no one could enter as well cause quite a few individuals were leaning again the blue barrier on the outskirts of the field. I could only assume they were cheering for her. I was the unknown. I reluctantly placed in my Duel Card.
FATE HAS DECIDED TO AWARD TEXCINATRIX 1st MOVE
A white sheen diagonally ran across the surface of the entire field which I could only assume indicated the start of the duel.

Texcinatrix: Good Luck, Red.
Texcy bows respectfully towards me. I would have bowed back but I was afraid if I bent in any direction I would have released the contents of my stomach on the field from sheer nervousness.
The Duel Disk released 5 cards into the draw dispenser. Texcy's side of the field then lights up.
Texcinatrix: 1st Move... Hmmm. Ok. I put a Monster Card face down and Set one card in my back field. Your move.
Texcy's side goes dark and my side of the field illuminates. A single cards falls from the dispenser. I take it and inspect my given cards.
I... can't do anything with these.
Trasia: Um... I. I end my turn!
Texcy begins to laugh slightly. The field switches initiators.
Texcinatrix: I'm not sure what you're up to but I hope you know what you're doing. I draw... Hmm. Not bad. I could use that later on. Ok Mother Grizzly its safe to come out.
She flips over her face down creature into Attack Position. A life sized Black Bear appeared on her side of the field. It's eyes glowed green as it stood on it's hind legs and let out a deafening roar. Under it's feet below the floor I could see that it had 1400 ATK and 1000 DEF. I had enough experience in the game to know if I had killed it by battle, it could retrieve a Water Attribute Monster of 1500 or less ATK points of her choice from her deck. Every one knows that giving your opponents choices is never a good thing.
Texcinatrix: Not only that but I figured I'd give my little buddy some exercise. Come on out Treeborn.
A small frog with wings and a chibi band-aid under it's chin, which was no bigger than my middle finger appears next to Mother Grizzly. If I wasn't scared out of my mind, it would look like the most ridiculous scene I have ever seen in my life. 100 ATK and 100 Defense was it's stats.
Texcinatrix: Attack her Directly.
Mother Grizzly got down on all four legs and came charging full speed toward me with little Treeborn gradually hopping to and fro behind it. Once it crossed the field it stood up and reached it's claw filled paw toward the heavens in an earth shattering attack. I huddled myself in an attempt to lessen the impending inevitable hurt coming my way. On it's down swing it struck an invisible barrier between me and itself which looked like digital visual feedback.

Quote:
Trasia: 6600 | 8000 :Texcinatrix
Realizing I was ok I looked out toward the field to where the Mother Grizzly was walking back across the field.
I guess I'm ok...
Recovering from my huddle I looked down and Treeborn was looking at me. I was looking at him and he was looking at me and I was looking at him. He flew up to me until he was at equal eye level and stared at me.

Trasia: Hi?

He then smacked me with his webbed hand. Not the barrier. Me. I was more shocked than hurt. It felt like i had a red, webbed imprint on my face.

Quote:
Trasia: 6500 | 8000 :Texcinatrix
Texcy smirked
Texcinatrix: Wow. They actually implemented that this year.
Trasia: ...
Texcinatrix: Oh.. keep forgetting. The school techs have been talking about removing the "minor damage" safeguards from the duel disk allowing Monsters of 100 ATK to actually strike their opponents. It's like an Easter eggs the techies talk about doing but i didn't know that they would implement it this year.
Texcy laughed out loud.
Texcinatrix: Well at any rate that ends my turn.
My side activates. I'm given another card.
This should help me out a bit...
Trasia: I summon Treeborn Frog in Attack Position!
Treeborn appeared on my side of the field stamping it's hind legs as if a bull getting ready to charge.
Trasia: You're very brave Treeborn but I'm going to use my Spell Card Double Summon and sacrifice Treeborn for Ancient Gear Beast.
As Treeborn begins to fade, random gears and cogs come from every different direction you can imagine and descended on where Treeborn was into a vortex of various parts until a four legged hound was made. It made a vicious howl upon it's completion.
Wow. He looks great in real life.
Trasia: AGB attack the Treeborn.
Turning it's head around it stuck it tongue out and began to wag it's tail like a happy puppy before charging at the small amphibian. Under it followed 2000 ATK and 2000 DEF. Upon getting to Texcy's side of the field it grabs hold of the fleeing Treeborn in it's mouth and shaking it side to side before finally chomping down dissipating it into a puff of smoke.

Quote:
Trasia: 6500 | 6100 :Texcinatrix
From his mouth a ghost like angel image of Treeborn playing a harp floated to a dark vortex area on the extreme right of her side the field. I assume that would be the graveyard. I always imagined a gravestone or something would represent it but this looked more so like a black hole swirling with blacks and purples.
Texcinatrix: Not bad kid. Especially for a 1st year. Guess I'll have to take you serious.
Trasia: I set a card in my backfield and I end my turn.
This should at least protect me from any surprises...
Texcinatrix: Ah ah ah. I was wondering when you would put something back there. Before your turn ends I activate my MST to destroy your backfield card.
No...
A dark ominous cloud started gathering overhead and several sparks start to sizzle among the cloud until a huge boom and lightning bolt comes full force shattering my backfield card into a million shards of glass. An image of Royal Decree appeared behind where it was destroyed before fading.
Texcinatrix: Wow Decree... that's some heavy fire power. I guess it's safe to assume you know what you're doing then. Ok. On me?
Things switch to her side.
Texcinatrix: I draw... funny. I think this is going to be cute. But 1st since this is my Standby phase Treeborn please return to me.
From out of the "Graveyard" the harp playing frog begins to float back to her.
Trasia: Um... Well... not really?
Texcinatrix: What are you talking about Red?
Trasia: Well... Texcy-
I may have been hallucinating but I could have sworn I saw fire blaze from her eyes.
Trasia: -yyyyynatrix. hehe.. Um.. AGB has the ability to negate any monsters effect that it destroys in battle including him.
Ancient Gear Beast growled upon seeing the Treeborn Frog. Seeing Ancient Gear Beast again it made an and jetted off back to the "Graveyard".
Texcinatrix: That, I didn't expect. No matter though, he was more of a convenience than a game winner. Let's go this way though. Abyss Soldier I need your assistance.
Hmm... he has the annoying ability of returning monsters from the field back to the hand. This could hurt a bit but then again I could just resummon it with my frog in the graveyard.
Texcinatrix: Not done quite yet. This place isn't exactly making me comfortable so lets change that. I play Umi.
The area suddenly flashes in a brilliantly bright light. I could not see at all. I shielded my eyes. Upon opening them I was no longer where I thought I was. I was standing on top of a sparkling blue ocean. I jumped a bit because I had no idea on how to swim but upon landing I didn't sink. It was as solid as the floor I had previously stood. The crowd was gone. In fact all I saw was miles and miles of water and our monsters. Texcy was sitting with a smile on her face.
Texcinatrix: You know Red, I love the water. I could just stay here all day if I could. It's something me and my deck have in common. But back to business. If you don't already know Umi is the Field Spell Card that gives a modest boost to all Fish, Sea Serpent, Thunder and Aqua types. 200 ATK and DEF points to be exact. Unfortunately it doesn't extend to my Mother Grizzly but it does apply to my Abyss Soldier bring it to 2000 ATK and 1500 DEF. But I won't be defending today. Abyss Soldier take care of the hound for me please.
She's gunna crash!?
Texcinatrix: Oh there is one little thing I did forget to mention. Umi does have the minor side effect of reducing the Machine and Pyro types ATK and DEF by the same amount, which Ancient Gear Beast seems to be.
That... I didn't know...
Looking closely at Ancient Gear Beast I could see rust starting to set in around his casing and gears. Abyss Soldier with a dive into the water started toward my creature with the grace of a dolphin, darting in and out of the waves. With his trident held high in the air, he brought it down swiftly just as Ancient Gear Beast turned to look at me with sad eyes as if he was apologizing for failing me. His parts crumbled underneath the might of the trident, sinking down into the ocean below.

Quote:
Trasia: 6300 | 6100 :Texcinatrix
I held my mouth in horror as if I had grown an attachment to the imaginary creature. I think I might have. I had these cards for years and that was my monster that died.

Texcinatrix: Mother Grizzly your turn.
Now I never understood why a bear was ever considered a water creature but to my utmost surprise the bulky creature swam like a fish... probably swam better than a fish. Upon reaching me it dove down and pirouette slashed at me like the most scariest ballerina I have ever seen.

Quote:
Trasia: 3900 | 6100 :Texcinatrix
Still sitting with a very satisfied look on her face she says
Texcinatrix: I set two cards in my backfield. Ok I'm done for now.
Things switch to my side. I draw the card.
Ok. I can definitely use this.
Trasia: On my standby phase I recall my Treeborn Frog.
Suddenly bubbles begin to arise from underneath the surface of the water and out jets out my Treeborn Frog making muscle poses from Umi's boost to Aqua creatures.
Trasia: Sorry froggy but i'm going to have to ask for another's assistance. Vanity's Fiend
Treeborn Frog:
Treeborn fades and above the water's surface appears a growing swirl of black smoke rising up until a man in a black cape dissipates it with a slight toss of it. He was... well... pretty. He hovered above the water rather than touching it.
Trasia: One more thing. I have a Field Spell Card of my own. I activate Mausoleum of the Emperor.
The water fades into darkness and everything goes black. It's not until the torches on each sides of the field becomes lit where we could see our surroundings. A temple complete with a brazier aflame and a set of long steps.
Texcinatrix: I don't believe I've seen this card played. Remind me of it's effects.
Trasia: It allow us to Summon Tribute monsters without tributes but paying our own Life Points in the number of tributes it normally requires in multiples of 1000 Point. Like if it's a 5 or 6 star monster you would pay 1000 points. 7 and above require 2000 points.
Texcinatrix: Good to know. Special Summon?
Trasia: I'm afraid not.
Texcinatrix: Well you are aware you already used your summon for the turn correct.
Trasia: I'm aware. But we're going to play another Double Summon and call forth Jinzo after I give 1000 points of my own strength.

Quote:
Trasia: 2900 | 6100 :Texcinatrix
Texcinatrix: I see.
Trasia Vanity's Fiend attack Mother Grizzly.
With a wave of his hand black smoke circles the beast, sending it into a rage until he is completely covered and then... silence. Once the smoke clears he was no longer there.

Quote:
Trasia: 2900 | 5100 :Texcinatrix
Texcinatrix: Nice thinking. I can't special summon a creature while Vanity's Fiend is on the field.
Did she just compliment me?
Trasia: Thank you... um... Jinzo attack Abyss Soldier.
Texcinatrix: Hold it right there...
Trasia: Huh? You can't activate Traps...
Texcinatrix: Oh I'm aware... Book of Moon doesn't happen to fit that category though. Flip Jinzo face down if you could.
Trasia ... I guess that's it. Before I end my turn I activate the Spell Card Terraforming to retrieve another Mausoleum of the Emperor and set it in the field card zone face down. My turn ends.
Texcinatrix: You surprise me Red. That prevents me from receiving the benefit of your field card. Unfortunately I'm going to have to end this game.
What does she mean? Can she really do that?!
Texcinatrix: I draw. Watch Carefully now or you will miss it.
Trasia: ....
Texcinatrix: 1) I activate Abyss Soldier ability and toss a Water Monster from my hand to return Vanity's Fiend back to your hand. 2) I activate my Field Card Legendary Ocean 3) With Legendary Ocean I activate my backfield card Call of the Haunted and retrieve my tossed card Levia-Dragon - Daedalus. 4) With Levia-Dragon - Daedalus on the field I give him up for Ocean Dragon Lord - Neo-Daedalus. 5) Activating his effect and sending Legendary Ocean to the Graveyard I clear the Field and your Hand. Ocean Dragon Lord - Neo-Daedalus Atta-
Just then Texcy's watch beeps.
Texcinatrix: Ugh... You're very fortunate I can't finish this. Consider this a Gift from me to you.
Texcy placed her hand upon her Deck.
TRASIA WINS
Texcinatrix: Not Bad for a 1st year. We'll meet again. Goodbye.
She runs off after the field disappears with backpack in hand.

That was really an excellent episode; your descriptions of the duel are really good. Too bad the duel didn't get to finish properly this time - hopefully we'll see more interesting duels on the next episodes.

Well done again!

Only the devil could make poor innocent Treeborn cry.. <.<
This was a pretty good way to display ground rules for how dueling and duel disks work in your Academy ^^ Sooo, the longer you're snowed in, the more time you have to write more? Because I have an endless supply of snowfall..

Now this was very entertaining. Good job Trasia. I liked the humour you added for the duel by making my personality the way you did, as well as the descriptions. It reminds me of a duel we might have had long ago.

Kudos on your first fan fic. I look forward to more in the future.

You talked so well about Vanity's Fiend (hovering over the water, pretty) that I couldn't resist reading the whole chapter, and I'm thankful because I liked it. One of the things which I liked the most was giving monsters personality; I really got into it when your Treeborn showed bravery towards Texcy...natrix. Keep it up.

My, my... am I reading fan-fics? Again? I'm becoming so soft-hearted.
